Pony Express is a chain of value-priced convenience stores in Nebraska and Iowa, offering fuel, tobacco, groceries, and sundries alongside a wide selection of drinks, snacks, and hot food. As a smaller, community-rooted chain, Pony Express wanted a loyalty experience that matched the reach of larger regional and national competitors while still feeling personal to the customers who fill up and stop in every day.

The Challenge

• Standing Out Against Bigger Chains - With just three locations, Pony Express needed a mobile-first rewards program that could compete for customer attention alongside larger, better-resourced convenience chains.

The Solution

Pony Express partnered with Liquid Barcodes to launch the Pony Express Rewards app, now available on iOS and Android across all three locations. The app gives customers a faster, more rewarding experience at the pump, in-store, and beyond.

Key Features

• Points - Members earn 10 points for every dollar spent in-store, 5 points per gallon of fuel, and 8 points for every dollar spent on certain tobacco products. New members also get 10 cents off per gallon of fuel at registration.
• Rewards - Members redeem points in the app's Rewards Shop for free items and coupons. Once a reward is claimed, the coupon is saved to the member's account.
• Games - Members can play games daily in the app for a chance to win points, prizes, and deals.
• Club Cards - Buy 10, get 1 free coffee and energy drink. Buy 5, get 1 free fountain drink.
• PIN Pad Registration - In addition to scanning their loyalty barcode in the app, members can identify themselves at checkout or the fuel dispenser by entering their phone number on the store PIN pad.
• Additional Rewards - Members earn extra rewards for referring friends, birthdays, and app-exclusive offers.
• Customer Success Support - Pony Express works directly with the Liquid Barcodes Customer Success team on program launch, campaign planning, and ongoing development to keep the loyalty program active and relevant as customer engagement grows.
